Nick Chacona [Saw Recordings]
19 August, 2007 | 3.19PMThe ‘Illuminato EP’ marks a change of pace for both Nick Chacona
and Saw Recordings
.
The Brooklyn producer is more readily associated with styles facing electronica and modern disco and Saw with progressive house and techno.
‘The ‘Right Wing’ moves through the shades of depth at a fluid pace, picking up a range of styles and sounds as it goes.
Chacona’s previous work is embodied in the arpeggiated, deep disco style bassline that weaves in and out recklessley.
The lead is one of those mid range, chopped-up synth barks, the kind your robot dog would make if he went out raving.
The percussion is basic with the focus on the more melodic aspects of the track, although an open hat shifts things up a notch at the point of resolution.
The ‘Eighteenth Hole’ has more of a traditional US house skip to it, with better development of the percussive elements and some deep pad swirls further added to this general feeling.
A free running organ dances around the bass without ever really resting on any particular notes or sequence.
Some heavy handclaps get a look in as the track reaches its slightly un-remarkable peak.
This EP could sit in many a DJ’s box as a solid warm up, but it falls short of the quality levels reached by Saw on their previous releases.
