IDMA winners announced

There were plenty of reasons to celebrate at last weekend’s Winter Music Conference—not least, the International Dance Music Awards, which celebrated its 26th year with a star-studded ceremony at Dolce.

According to organizers, two million votes were cast this year, from voters in 183 countries. As always, nominations leaned heavily on trance, electro house and commercial dance; big winners included Duck Sauce (Best Underground Dance Track and Best House/GarageTrack), Swedish House Mafia (Best Electro/Tech House Track, Best Progressive Track, Best Break-Through Artist [Group], Best Artist [Group]), and Armin Van Buuren, who walked away with five awards, including Best Trance Track, Best European DJ, Best Global DJ, Best Full Length DJ Mix, and Best Podcast. Deadmau5 was the provocative pick for two categories—Best Dubstep/DnB/Jungle Track and Best American DJ (North America)—with which he’s not necessarily associated; he also came out on top in the Best Artist (Solo) category.

Finally, we can’t risk tooting our own horn: Beatport carried the day as Best Dance Music Specialty Retailer, and Beatportal won for Best Dance Music Website, for which we’re pleased as punch; sincerest thanks to everyone who voted for us.
