Ibiza’s best chill out music

Before Ibiza there was no ‘chill out’.

The island’s famous beach and sunset bars such as Cafe del Mar, Cafe Mambos and Sa Trinxa pioneered blissful, charming, downtempo jazz, deep house, funk and soul long before chill out CDs became a coffee table accessory.

Whilst Ibiza’s nightclubs are the best in the world, its beaches, bars and sunsets are also the perfect tonic to wash away the previous night’s excesses.

Today Beatportal visited one of the best chill out bars in Ibiza - Sa Trinxa on Las Salinas Beach and met Andi Piper, a DJ who has spun at the bar for over 10 years alongside the legendary Jon Sa Trinxa.

We grilled Andi about what he thinks is Ibiza’s best chill out music in between his mixes.

We ask Andi Piper, resident DJ of Ibiza’s famous Sa Trinxa bar on Las Salinas beach what’s Ibiza’s best chill out music.

Best set opener?

Andi Piper: “Every day starts differently at Sa Trinxa so it’s impossible to choose one record as a Best set opener.

“The aim of our long sets at Sa Trinxa - we usually start at 2pm and finish about 10 or 11pm - is to start very mellow, and build up very very slowly throughout the day so that by sunset we’ve got a good groove going.

“Today I started my set with Saint Privat ‘Somebody To Love’ [Beatport doesn’t have this track, but be sure to check out Saint Privat’s fabulous album ‘Riviera’ in the player below].

Best vocal track?

“Again, very tough to choose only one but Rodney Hunter ‘Wanna Groove’ (Wahoo Vocal Remix) is really great.”

Best sunset track?

“Wow! That’s the magic question. There’s so many good sunset records but I absolutely love Pointless Allstars ‘Rico’ (No Can Dub).

Best end of day track (chill out is generally a daytime activity)?

Nouvelle Vague ‘Don’t Go’ is funny to play at the end - please don’t go home!”
