Ibiza people: Lord of the Rings

“They call me lord of the rings,” says the tanned, bearded man whilst standing in front of his stand thats offers rings in many different shapes, sizes and colours.

We’ve met many interesting people whilst traveling around Ibiza, and some of the most colourful characters we’ve come across were hiding in the hippy markets of the island.

“I have a ring for everybody, you know,” he says.

The story of how Mr. Lord of the Rings came to be selling rings in a hippy market in Ibiza is a similar story to the other ones we’ve heard from Ibiza settlers.

“I’ve been here for 20 years,” he tells us.

“When I first arrived I had a terrible accident with a dog and I had to sell some things from my house to make ends meet, including jewelry and electrical goods.

“I realised that I was good at talking to people and persuading them to buy things from me, so I decided to start doing it more.

“Over the years I’ve collected thousands of rings from other people who gave up and sold me their collections.”
