Ibiza International Music Summit gets serious

Ibiza International Music Summit gets serious

Pete Tong [a] launched Ibiza’s International Music Summit last summer, and by most accounts, it was a very successful micro networking event for electronic music.

The 2009 edition however looks set to eclipse last year’s event considerably, if the first whisperings of confirmed keynote speakers is anything to go by.

Techno legend and Minus boss Richie Hawtin [a], an artist who has always attempted to push the boundaries of the scene, will do a keynote speech.

“I heard great reports about the first IMS, and as this is a critical time for the industry and the world at large, this intimate gathering feels more important now than ever before. I am excited to share my experiences and vision for the future with the leaders of the genre,” said Hawtin.

As well as Hawtin, some of the most influential figureheads behind the world’s biggest dance brands will be present included James Barton (Cream / Creamfields), Lynn Cosgrave (manager of Carl Cox), Enric Palau (Sonar festival), Mark Grotefeld (Pioneer Europe) and Michael Weiss from Nervous Records. South American linchpin Martin Gontad, a man who helped to popularise major electronic music festivals in the continent, will also be present.

Tong added that the IMS’ core aim is for the greater good of dance music. “Last year was a revelation, an incredible gathering of big thinkers, with deals being done on the spot, and a feeling of all wanting to take our genre to a new level.”

Having some of the biggest cogs in dance music in one room in Ibiza, is certainly a poignant and exciting chance for the scene to move forwards as one.
