Ibiza crisis: Bora Bora moves next door

What did Bora Bora’s resident DJs do when the Ibiza police shut down the beach bar on June 7th? They moved their party next door.  Bora Bora resident DJ Will Johnston exclusively revealed to Beatportal that the closure has done little to dampen the infamous Bora Bora spirit.

“On that Thursday we were DJing as per normal, then at about 6pm the Guardia Civil came down and told us to turn off the system and stop the party,” said Will Johnston.

“So we stopped playing, picked up our records and moved next door.

Bora Bora‘s owners run the whole Jet apartments building so it was no big deal.”

The injunction that also resulted in the closure of Ibiza club Amnesia is due to end 7th July so both venues will reopen again soon.

Ibiza Anxious

How has the temporary closure affected Bora Bora and Ibiza’s party community?

“Since we relocated next door, our parties haven’t been as busy - at Bora Bora it used to be rocking from mid-afternoon onwards,” said Johnston.

“But now it only gets busy after 7pm.

“The biggest disaster is for Amnesia though - the club is big and puts on massive productions.

“Their DJs have already been booked and they’ve already spent money on promotion - they surely have experienced a huge financial loss.

“The mood in Ibiza is still the same amongst tourists, but for the DJs and promoters there’s a general vibe of anxiety.

“People are worried that they’ll be closed down next.”

Political?

Ibiza afterparty haven DC10 was also ordered to close on June 7th - for two months but reopened triumphantly last week without explanation.

The government mandate that ordered all three venues to close was based on drug and security allegations, but the closures may also have been political.

The owners of some of Ibiza’s biggest clubs are also some of the most powerful people on the island, and in the past there have been rumors of political manipulation.

It is no coincidence, some believe, that Bora Bora and DC10 were targeted on 7th June - both venues are major competition for the island’s big clubs for different reasons.

Bora Bora is an open-air free party that is busy seven days a week during the summer.

DC10 started out as a free afterparty, but has since grown to become one of the island’s most popular clubs - it hosts Circoloco’s infamous parties on a Monday.

Might the closures on June 7th be the work of the disco mafia?
