Ibiza council bans after-hours parties

Ibiza-Voice.com recently reported that Ibiza’s governing council are to ban after-hours clubs on the party island.

The draconian measures although “Ibiza-wide”, will in reality only affect three clubs - Space, DC10 and Bora Bora - as the area of San Josep is the only district in Ibiza that allows after-hours clubs.

In the island’s main newspaper Diario de Ibiza, a front-page lead story included aggressive quotes from the Consell president Xico Tarres, and Josep Mari Ribas, mayor of Sant Josep.

Tarres said after-hours clubs, “attract a lower quality of tourist and cause more problems than benefits.”

Whilst mayor Ribas said after-hours clubs are: “"totally undesirable… we don´t like them at all.”

The new laws will now mandate 12 noon opening times for clubs as opposed to the current 8am licensing laws.

This means DC10 and Space will no longer be open in mornings.

It’s unclear if Bora Bora is viewed as an after-hours venue, but considering that the beach-front bar has been continually targeted by police and the council in recent years, it’s doubtful whether Bora Bora will be allowed to open for business next summer.

Rather ironically, Diario de Ibiza recently reported on the proliferation of illegal parties this past summer.

Ibiza-Voice.com responded: “The very same government officials who are keen to stamp out the well-regulated and fiercely patrolled menace of after-hours discos are fretting at the fact that holiday makers are increasingly turning to throwing bashes in the countryside, villas, or at restaurants.

“None of this should come as a surprise to anyone with a rudimentary grasp of cause and effect.

“People come to Ibiza to party – if they can’t go to a club they’ll simply turn up the tunes, break out a few bottles and carry on wherever they are.”

The new laws banning after-hours parties will come as no surprise to Ibiza’s regulars.

This summer DC10 and Bora Bora were shut down by police over drug and security allegations.

Free parties such as Mulletover and Cocoon’s afterparty were also targeted.
