Ibiza: a virgin’s guide #1

Ibiza: a virgin’s guide #1

Beatportal has just touched down in Ibiza.

First impressions inside: Tourist hell or reveler’s paradise?

All aboard

The interconnecting flight to Ibiza from Barcelona only takes 50 minutes, and coming in to land, the runway strip is so close to the sea that it feels like you’re going to plunge into the water.

The airport is very small and is swathed with taxi firms, so it’s extremely easy to get a cab to your hotel.

Not your usual airport billboard
Adverts for Ibiza’s clubbing nights litter the airport, suggesting that these venues really are the financial lifeblood of the island.

The heat, in late June at the time of writing, is scorching.

The sun is immense, there are no clouds in the sky, and it’s a dry heat.

In the taxi, where we’re reporting now from the front line, we can confirm from our window view that the myth about beautiful girls in Ibiza is true.

One negative aspect that Beatportal would like to highlight about Ibiza is that some of the locals don’t seem to like tourists very much [at least, that’s as far as our taxi driver is concerned].

Perhaps the myth of San Antonio and those ‘Brits on Tour’ T-shirts has taken its toll?

But that’s a myth for another day, which Beatportal will unravel in the days to come.

Ibizan food: cheap if you want it to be
To round off today’s virgin’s guide, it should be noted that you can get a rather awesome ham and cheese ciabatta with olive oil, a bloody huge ice cream sandwich and a beer for a mere €7.

So don’t think that you have to break the bank to eat on this island.

Tonight it’s Cocoon at Amnesia, headlined by Richie Hawtin, followed by an after party on the beach.

Ibiza virgins’ cherries are well and truly about to pop.
