Ibiza 2008: Meet Amnesia’s dancers

I think she said her name was Francesca but I couldn’t hear properly over the booming techno of Amnesia’s main room.

As one of Amnesia’s many dancers, this Chilean girl will spend her summer nights in Ibiza dancing until the early hours seven days a week.

An Amnesia dancer prepares for a night on the podiums

“Last night I made 100 euros,” she says, whilst adjusting her hair in a mirror.

Watching the unbelievably skinny, genetically perfect dancers of Ibiza are as much a part of the Ibiza experience, as the superstar DJs and sunsets, and although they don’t make much money from the clubs directly, there’s always the possibility of tips from the very rich clientèle who populate the VIP areas.

And don’t assume it’s just women who parade themselves earnestly on the podiums in Ibiza - you’re just as likely to see ripped abs and bicep-beautiful men shaking their toned behinds as you are half naked women (and you’ll be envious too).

The dancers get their orders for the evening

Ibiza for some is about two weeks of party mayhem, or a weekend of hedonistic pleasure, but for these dancers its six months of dedication, late nights and make up.

Their comittment says much about the culture of Ibiza.

I pose the question of what motivates these girls and boys to commit six months of their lives to dancing in Ibiza and the answer seems to be the same: Ibiza is a magical place and dancing allows them to earn just enough money to live on the island for the whole season.
