Ian Carey rises again
12 February, 2008 | 2.18PM- Section: Music News Topics: House Nation
Ian Carey’s latest offering on Spinnin’ is ‘Keep On Rising’, an upbeat cover of the Soul Providers’ ‘Rise’, a song that Ian actually produced back-in-the-day along with Jason Papillon.
When asked, he says he had no intention of making a mainstream record; it just worked out that way.
Since then, the duo worked together on a string of underground anthems including ‘Try My Love’, ‘I Don’t Know’ and ‘Let The Sunshine In’, staying true to their soulful house roots.
The Baltimore-native now resides in Europe with his sound changing to reflect that.
Carey’s new version of ‘Keep On Rising’ (surprisingly never the crossover pop hit that it once promised) still features original singer Michelle Shellers strong vocal performance.
It’s still a perfect piece of soulful house fueled by bongo driven beats, emotive piano chords and sharp instrumentation that allow the hooky vocal to shine.
In a handful of new versions this tight, crisp and sophisticated funk-laced offering truly tickles the taste buds.
