I Want You (Forever) (DJ Marky & A-Sides remix)
Yousef, Carl Cox [Cr2 Records]
7 May, 2008 | 4.24PM- Section: Music Reviews Topics: Beatport Blog
This is a remix of a remix of a remix.
Yousef recently relicked Carl Cox’s classic ‘I Want You Forever’, which now has a bunch of eclectic commissions to back it up.
On this download you can also nab the Fabio and Grooverider mix from 1991 – a deep house version – which should put the drum & bass remix being reviewed here into context and show you how adventurous DJ Marky and A-Sides have been with it.
Taking the vocal from the classic original, DJ Marky and A-Sides depart from the guidelines drawn out by Carl Cox to take their samples through the valley of death.
The oppressive filtered stabs and multi-edged basslines inside surround the listener and bombard them, whilst panic-stricken strings combine to create a memorable, powerful composition.
Tumbling congas and staccato vocals mesh wonderfully and contrast with sparing, serene elements that emit light at the end of the tunnel for lost ravers.
As for the Fabio and Grooveride remix, forget genres – if you are a dance music fan you owe it to yourself to listen to this.
It’s a straight-up musical classic, with a distinct bassline and live, warehouse-style beats.
