Scott Ferguson ‘I Can’t Be Without You’ on Gravid Digital.

Gravid Digital is a new sub-label offering from Detroit veterans Scott Ferguson and Keith Kemp, previously known worldwide for their deep house imprint Ferrispark.

Established in 2006 and now formally launched via Beatport in 2007, Gravid Digital introduces a stripped-down and referential Detroit techno sound with their initial release, Scott Ferguson’s ‘I Can’t Be Without You’ single.

Scott’s foray into techno via Gravid Digital begins with his original mix of ‘I Can’t Be Without You’, a stripped down and emotional narrative driven by an incessant 16th note rhythm, surrendering to an distinctive Fender Rhodes and Scott’s own haunting vocal.

Part song, part floor-filling DJ tool, ‘I Can’t Be Without You’ builds to a crescendo inside a driving 303-like synth line, establishing the melodic feel and lead melody of these Detroit/Chicago hybrid beats.

Rounding out this release are remixes from Detroit producers Keith Kemp and Luke Hess, known respectively for their releases on Ferrispark, Beretta Grey and FXHE.

Keith Kemp’s Matchpoint Remix strips Scott’s original down to its sum parts, trading the pounding beats for an infectious bass line that slithers around the processed vocals.

Inspired by the emotional narrative penned by his close friend and label partner, Keith’s minimal workout provides a dj-friendly anthem that reaches to all corners of the dance-floor.

Gravid newcomer, Luke Hess, delivers an equally haunting remix, this time focusing on a solid chord motif with slight reference to the original vocals.

Luke’s version transforms Scott’s techno sounds into another unique take on the emotional quality of the original via a consistent percussion attack and haunting chords.
