brand has spawned two critically acclaimed mix compilations, and has also been his spiritual home for his production work, the first of which came out in 2005 with the release of the ‘Utilities EP.
This was subsequently followed a year later by the single ‘Weird Science’.
Both releases established Zabiela’s production style as much akin to his DJ style – pretty much anything goes.
His love for sci-fi and technology shone through on both releases, but his latest foray for the label is much more grounded, as James seeks to pay homage to the music that influenced him over the years, with a track he calls ‘Human’.
The almost clinical production quality of his previous work is stripped back for this latest track, although the arrangement and direction is still as meticulously crafted as ever.
Zabiela’s signature stabby bass and FX still remain, but with subtle acid elements and house rhythms interwoven into the drifting layers of bass that piece everything together.
The wistful melodies and vocal (from James Zabiela
himself) add the humanistic side to the track, but when all is said and done, it’s another great production worthy of inclusion in your CD wallet or indeed harddrive.
