25 February, 2009 | 9.32AMSlam’s new ‘Hot Knives’ track ain’t exactly intricate; but its unashamedly straight-forward approach to ruining a dancefloor will earn it many spins in the coming weeks.
As a tool, it’s about as honest and useful as a chimney sweep, guvnor.
A simple monotone bassline rises and falls from the off, instilling standard dancefloor stimulus.
After a big breakdown the record comes back with a beautiful haymaker, and through a white noise symposium induces the kind of supreme euphoria usually reserved for scoring goals or getting laid.
The track then returns to do it all over again, at which point, the crowd know exactly what to expect.
