Hot Chip, Sutekh and Megasoid play Pop Montreal
3 October, 2008 | 2.35PMStarting this past Wednesday and running until Sunday October 5th in Montreal, Pop Montreal festival is heating up Montreal.
This festival is being called “the most eclectic music festival in Canada” in one of the coolest cities in the country.
Although fall’s temperatures are dropping, the city will be buzzing with people, bands and a few DJs, as Pop Montreal continues with music, pop art, and film screenings.
Opening the festival, on Wednesday night in Montreal, Hot Chip played a sold out show.
This video posted by mileender on YouTube shows Hot Chip at Metropolis playing their song ‘Ready for the Floor’ from their latest full length ‘Made in the Dark’.
Coming up on Saturday there are tons of showcases that festival wristband wearers can choose from.
Music fans from mostly New York City, Toronto, and Ottawa often attend the festival, as well as music industry types scouting out new local talent and trends.
On Saturday, a sample of the offerings from Pop Montreal include:
Megasoid (known for some of his work on Ninjatune) playing alongside other left field hip hop groups such as Mike Slott, Rustie, Hudson Mohawke, Lunice and Mofomatronix at Club Soda.
The Black Kids (indie dance rock ‘it’ band of the moment from New York), whose sound intersects with The Cure and Daft Punk, will play along with Hot Springs and The Virgins at Cabaret du Musee Juste Pour Rire.
On the techno side of the event remains one sole event that will play something that’s not indie rock, or indie dance.
MUTEK and Musique Risquée’s showcase features San Francisco’s Pigeon Funk collaboration of micro-house by Kit Clayton, Sutekh and Safety Scissors, which will take place at SAT (La Société des arts technologiques) on Friday night.
Vincent Lemieux and Sutekh will also perform.
These guys were playing minimal before it became the uber popular phenomenon it has been in the last five years.
Audiences can expect glitch tech beats and dubby techno with the kind of funk that maybe even die hard rock fans can appreciate!
