‘Hooked’ was one of the biggest hits to date for Hamburg tech house imprint Liebe Detail, and went some way to introducing veteran Swedish producer Tiger Stripes to a whole new audience.

Now, it’s time for a new lease of life for the track, via a snazzy pair of mixes from Guy Gerber and Solomun.

Gerber’s take is more clanking and noisy than his usual style, cutting the groove up into a whirring, flailing swinger.

Teasing out the track’s tribal inclinations and stapling them to a scattered, uncertain bassline, it’s the kind of cyber-tribal bomb that will fit neatly into the crates of numerous reconstituted tech house types.

Better still is the Solomun mix, where the Hamburg homeboy sands down the original’s edges, maintaining the sinister chimes and the instantly recognisable vocal refrain.

Cannily, he also slips in some brooding strings, giving the track a fresh sense of drama that will appeal to house, techno and melodic minimal heads alike.

While neither quite matches the striking power of the original, both are nonetheless fine, respectful additions to the ever-impressive Liebe Detail catalogue.
