Hello…
8 June, 2007 | 4.13PM- Section: Music News Topics: Industry Girl Blog
It’s Saturday night and the fire alarm won’t shut off in one of America’s busiest clubs. White lights are flickering but it’s not the strobe, rather it’s the warning signs of possible danger.
The beats have stopped, Nick Warren is waiting and the crowd is getting uneasy. “Nick War-ren! Nick War-ren! Nick War-ren!” the audience shouts in unison. What the fuck happened?
Rewind.
It was the summer of ’94, cruising in my brother’s 4-door silver Volvo when I fell in love with bass. It was a cheesy remix of “Do You Miss Me” by Jocelyn Enriquez and it was absolutely fabulous. The windows were rolled down and as the wind ripped through my then jet black hair, my passion for dance music began to intertwine with my destiny with little notice. The tune still reverberates in my internal dance floor as I begin to collect my thoughts and memories to introduce my life to you as Industry Girl.
Fast-forward.
It’s the year 2000. My friends and I pull up to a large farmhouse in the middle of nowhere where God forgot about. The owner greets us with his shotgun and dogs. We offer him $5,000 in cash to use one of his spaces for a rave we intended to throw, foolishly hoping that he’d say yes immediately. As I turn my back to look at the potential venue, I manage to somehow piss off one of the dogs and they start to chase me…
Fast-forward.
It’s been over a decade since cupid hit me and I find myself booking the world’s best deejays for a couple of the world’s best clubs. How the hell did I ever get here? I’m not sure of the journey but I’m damn sure I love it here. I promise to be good. Just let me stay.
Back to Saturday night.
I thank my lucky stars that it was a false fire alarm as the sirens finally shut off and the music is turned back on. Nick Warren graces the decks and the crowd’s insatiable hunger for beats will be temporarily quenched. The night goes on.
So welcome to Industry Girl’s life. Hello… Chao, Hola, Bon jour, Ni hao, Guten tag, Konnichi wa, Buon
