Hell nabs P. Diddy, Bryan Ferry and Henrik Schwarz for LP
11 February, 2009 | 10.28AMToday some details about DJ Hell’s forthcoming album ‘Teufelswerk’ emerged, with hip hop mogul P. Diddy, 1970s English pop star Bryan Ferry, German producer Henrik Schwarz
, and downtempo master Peter Kruder
listed as album collaborators.
Hell also admitted that ‘Teufelswerk’, or ‘Devil’s Work’ in German, is a very personal record. “All my knowledge is there…I don’t think I can make a better record,” said the German artist, who runs International DeeJay Gigolo Records
.
‘Teufelswerk is being touted as Hell’s masterpiece, with 16 tracks having been divided into two themes, day and night.
Hell enlisted Peter Kruder to produce the ‘Day’ part, with collaborative tracks given to Christian Prommer
and Roberto Di Gioia. Reportedly slow burning, the first half includes acoustic guitar moments, and lush soundscapes that are being likened to the works of Pink Floyd and Kraftwerk (at least spiritually).
The ‘Night’ half, is as expected, full of club friendly tracks, with P. Diddy lending his vocals to ‘The DJ’, “a jack-track and future single”. Henrik Schwarz also makes an appearance on forthcoming single ‘The Angst Pt. 1 and Pt. 2’ (the label is currently offering a free download of ‘Angst Pt.1’).
Disco rears its funky head with Roxy Music’s former frontman Bryan Ferry lending vocals. “I have done kosmische musik in a new way,” mused Hell. “This is where I come from, I grew up with the early German electronic pioneers of music, and this is why I went in this direction. Often it is called German electronic avant-garde, or psychedelic music. I went back to the ’70s and tried to do it in my own way.”
Hell’s ‘Teufelswerk’ will drop on Gigolo on 27th April.
