He Said He Loved Me

Reverend and The Makers [Wall of So...

There is something of a tradition in the Indie sphere, whereby bands are awarded kudos for telling tales of gritty real life.

Whether it be tales of skinny jeaned boys trying to escape the drudgery of suburbia, or stories of skinny jeaned boys living the life of an urban rapscallion.

The point of this is that often no attention is paid to the fact that not only have none of these band members lived the life they are discussing (it’s more of a romanticised art school thing) they are also crap.

Reverend & The Makers’ latest offering serves up tales of relationships going astray, nights in, in front of the T.V. and un-wanted pregnancy.

All the ingredients seem to be in place for another addition to the Indie tradition already discussed.

However, while ‘You Get So Alone Sometimes It Just Makes Sense’ is prime slice Indie synth pop, ‘He Said He Loved Me’ with its Essex girl, Northern Boy call and response vocal, is an absolute Indie dance gem.

I haven’t even bothered to find out how tight the band member’s jeans are nor whether they are from a working class background, or how much these tales are grounded in empirical reality, because this is bloody brilliant.
