Has Stimming scored the summer club anthem of 2008?
7 August, 2008 | 6.25AMGermany’s up-and-coming man of the moment drops a Latin vocal bomb.
Every summer can be remembered by a great record that sums up the season.
An anthem that soundtracks holidays in Ibiza, festivals in Eastern Europe, raves in the park or even just an old fashioned ‘back to mine’ in your back garden.
In 2006, Gabriel Ananda’s ‘Doppelwhipper’ provided the peak time moment to remember for the underground while Fedde Le Grande delivered the electro house club hit ‘Put Your Hands Up For Detroit.’
In 2007 clubs like DC10 in Ibiza and festivals like Awakenings in Holland went crazy to Ricardo Villalobos’ still unreleased mix of Depeche Mode’s ‘Sinner In Me.’
Ricardo’s remix played at a Circoloco afterparty in 2007
This year the accolade of a track that unites the tribes of dance music may just go to breakthrough star Martin Stimming
.
Currently only available on promo, ‘Una Pena’ has all the hallmarks of an Ibiza hit record with all the characteristics of a current big underground tune.
Like similar big Latin flavoured underground club hits championed by Luciano or Ricardo Villalobos, the track is based around a Spanish vocal and some very big drops that are destined to ravage clubs like Ibiza’s DC10 and Cocoon, or Birmingham’s Below party all summer.
It’s assisted by a deep and moodier remix by another young and on the rise producer, Argy, who first rose to prominence with another big tune from 2005, ‘Love Dose.’
The track marks another milestone in the career of Martin Stimming.
After unleashing two excellent EPs including the epic ‘Funkworkm’ on his home label Diynamic
(a track that can boast one of the best basslines of the decade), the Hamburg-based producer has been earning props for big tracks and remixes on labels like Buzzin Fly and Liebe Detail.
The toast of fans and fellow producers alike, his style is based around crisp beats, quirky production touches and jazzy tones.
Most of his tracks build the tension for several minutes before a big drop (like on his other Diynamic biggie ‘Radar’) flips the tune inside out and into a surprise musical moment.
A Resident Advisor podcast showcasing his liveset also proved that he’s capable of providing one of the best laptop performances in dance music.
Sounds like it could be the summer of Stimming.
