Jonny L [Mr. L Records]

Legendary, reclusive producer Jonny L [a] is in the business of making bangers, not anthems.

After being out of the loop for a succession of years, Jonny returned to the frame last year, with massive anthems ‘Back to your Roots (Friction and KTee remix)’ and ‘Oh Yeah’, which are arguably two of the biggest drum & bass tracks of 2007.

For those of you who aren’t aware of Jonny L cast your mind to the mid-nineties, when drum & bass was in its infancy.

You may remember such classic tracks as ‘Hurt You So’, originally released on classic techno label, R&S, and ‘Piper’ then released on XL Recordings.

Towards the late nineties Jonny’s fame reached a pivotal high after forming the garage act Truesteppers who had massive chart hits ‘Buggin’ and ‘Out of Your Mind (featuring Victoria Beckham)’.

Now returning last year after his hiatus and solitude within the study, Jonny has carved out another banger using his classic production framework.

There’s no special production, big vocal samples or strings within this track, just simple rolling snares and a thunderous progressive bassline.

This record is almost a tribute to the trademark Metalheadz sound of the late nineties, but more importantly it’s a big drum & bass weapon that will carve out its legacy on the dance floor.

If you like this record though, don’t expect to see to see Jonny L playing it out anytime soon. Due to the man’s hard working nature in the studio he plays live once in a blue moon.
