Handle It EP
Richard Dinsdale [Toolroom]
19 February, 2008 | 9.07AM- Section: Music Recommendations
Mr. Dinsdale comes clean with four distinct electro house numbers for you this month, courtesy of Toolsroom Recordings.
His haunting, bell-like ‘Handle It’ is, predictably, the standout track in this EP.
It’s a nicely engineered piece of music that pumps hard in all the right places.
Richard Dinsdale uses side-chain compression here to good effect as the big, vibrant bassline ducks out of the way of the funky-as-fuck beats.
He adds some cool syncopated non-musical stabs too, which shunt through the groove and really add to the overall groovy feeling.
The other tracks aren’t on par with the former – ‘No Soul’ is cool enough but the vocal sample might be a bit too dominant on the drop for some.
That said, it sounds excellent on a proper sound system, and the 1980s Ghostbusters vibe is funky and fun.
‘Too Much’ is a real sneaky one, complete with nice, worn-vinyl effects, whilst ‘Firewire’ is a hard, minimalist banger with an emphasis on Nightrider-style arpeggiators and hard house synths.
