7 May, 2009 | 2.09PMFinally, ending a two year hiatus after their vinyl distributor went under, Hallucination Recordings is back (in a way).
Label boss and legendary DJ Three
has finally started the process of making the content available digitally for the first time ever under the new label Hallucination Limited.
In the coming months there will be long-awaited digital releases of the rare vinyl-only back catalogue (3 per month) and some even with new remixes.
But to kick things off, they’ve started with a 2005 label compilation by Three himself cleverly called ‘Hallucienda’, available in both mixed and unmixed versions.
The album contains new and unreleased material from that time period showcasing an evolution from the label’s techy-prog-breaks roots into a more techno and electronica oriented sound.
To listen to the album, though, you wouldn’t know it was four years old. From the future breaks sound of Rabbit In The Moon’s ‘Timebomb’, to the deep techy groove of ‘Change’ by Terry Francis, to the incomparable vocal talents of Lisa Shaw nestled in the electronic stylings of Q-Burns Abstract Message, this compilation could have been released just today and none would be the wiser. (Maybe I shouldn’t even have told you…)
Well, hopefully I’m making up for that information leak but assuring you that whether mixed or unmixed, this compilation is a well-rounded, smooth, engaging selection from start to finish.
What’s even more exciting is that each track on ‘Hallucienda’ will also be released as a single throughout the summer and fall of 2009 and, to complete their updating of the label, will include remixes by the names we love like Radio Slave, Jamie Jones, Evil Eddie Richards, Pier Bucci, Nova Dream Sequence (King Britt), and many more.
