Guy Gerber enlists Johnny D and Reboot for ‘Disorientation’

Guy Gerber told Beatportal back in March that he had plans to unleash a newer, housier style of music, and then when he played at the Beatport pool party during Miami WMC his set was not so much about the trancey progressive sound that he’s known for, but rather it was minimal, chunky house music.

Check out the YouTube video below from the pool party.

The first release for 2008 on Gerber’s own Supplement Facts label is his own ‘Disorientation’, which showcases his more groovy style.

For the remixes, Gerber enlisted the help of two of the hottest producers in electronic music currently—Reboot and Johnny D—again which shows his new inclination for house music.

It was a shrewd move too, as Johnny D and Reboot are are producing some mind-blowing music at the moment.

Guy Gerber ‘Disorientation’

Guy Gerber revealed how the cool sax lead of ‘Disorientation’ came about.

“I made ‘Disorientation’ after a tour in South America in January this year,” revealed Guy Gerber.

“Some of my friends described it as a futuristic Ennio Morricone sounding track, which is pretty amazing.

“I had the saxophone sample from a friend for a long time and was always playing with it, but all the time it was too ‘pretty’ for me.

“Until a few friends joined me for a late night session; about 8AM, I was twisting it through a very cool effect and I got this very weird harmony out of it, and I knew that it was made.”

Gerber’s music has always been progressive in its approach to arrangement, and there’s rarely a dull moment during a Guy Gerber set.

As the Israeli producer explained, his music is all about the journey.

“I always like to tell a story in a track - to build a drama, then make the situation a bit chaotic and finish with an optimistic look into the future, which is also bitter/sweet,” he said.

Gerber is also pretty chuffed that he scooped Johnny D and Reboot for remix duties too.

“I choose Johnny D because he is my favourite artist of the moment - I have to admit that his melodies touch me like no other artist from the present (I’m very picky with that) - and I want Supplement Facts to go in a more housey direction this year, so his sound is fantastic for this.

“I also wanted this release to be a perfect after hours record and Reboot is great for that too.”

Beatportal loves Johnny D too: We love his new ‘Orbitalife’ single on Oslo and in February we interviewed Johnny D about his first steps into electronic music.

Beatportal hasn’t heard the Johnny D or Reboot remixes of ‘Disorientation’ yet, but we wait with baited breath as both remixers are known for their rolling, forward-thinking house sound.

Guy Gerber ‘Disorientation’ is due for release on May 19th.
