Ben Watt’s sublime soulful tech house record ‘Guinea Pig’ was a big record in the last months of 2008, and this remix pack which features German gruesome twosome M.A.N.D.Y. and producer extraordinaire DJ Koze has been a long time coming, with many scrambling to try and get their hands on the remixes before they were available.

Koze skills at remixing, in a few people’s eyes, are second to none - Get Physical recently even released an album commemorating the depth and brilliance of his work with the aptly titled ‘Reincarnations’ album (because his remixes truly are a complete rebirth).

Koze’s Vocal Variation Remix of ‘Guinea Pig’ is an outstanding slice of pop-friendly electronica, with live drums, serene chords and Julia Biel’s vocals sounding curiously like Björk. Woven into the blissful fabric are layers of wacky sound FX and samples, including a ‘we’re sorry your call cannot be completed as dialed’ sample - it’s the fine type of Koze madness he always seems to give his music. The arrangement and structure too, is similarly chaotic yet brilliant.

M.A.N.D.Y. and Smallboy’s remix is much closer to the original and retains the deep hypnotic vibe whilst adding some Get Physical quirkiness to the beats.

Overall though, Koze’s remix shines the brightest.
