Guadalupe EP
Panico [Tigersushi]
17 December, 2007 | 4.07PM- Section: Music Reviews
Panico are perhaps Chile’s best known musical export, who through a random meeting in a Parisian book shop have not only swapped views of the Andes for the Eiffel tower by taking up permanent residence in the French capital, but also managed to bag themselves a deal on über hip Indie label Tigersushi.
After the critical, and to a degree commercial, success of their last long player, ‘Subliminal Kill’, produced in parts by the likes of Joakim and Christian Vogel, they return with the religious influenced, in name anyway, ‘Guadalupe EP’.
More of a single than an EP, the title track sees Panico returning to the template that served them so well previously, with driving bass lines and yelping vocals doing battle with angular guitars, causing something of a South American punk(ish) maelstrom of noise.
The release also comes with a dub (if yelping vocals, battling with guitars don’t really do it for you).
Best by far, though, is the Optimo Espacio mix courtesy of Espacio boys Twitch and Wilkes.
They take the original and flip it for the dance floor.
Though a very twisted dance floor it would be, sounding something like an Inca shaman juiced up on Pisco and Peyote doing the conga in Machu Picchu on the summer equinox.
As always outstanding, psychedelic stuff from the Glaswegians!
