Pendulum [Warner Bros. Records]
25 February, 2008 | 5.22PM- Section: Music Reviews
Pendulum continue to blow minds in the drum & bass scene with this devastating single.
To get the gripes out of the way first, we’re not sure why a group as good as Pendulum needs to recycle the same formula time after time in their records – a half-time intro falling into a slightly non-related drop.
That said, this record is another example of why Pendulum were signed to a major record label – they have music production skills matched by no one.
Granted, Timbaland and The Neptunes might be able to make catchier tunes, but they can’t make something as devastating as a Pendulum production.
‘Granite’ is the best-produced Pendulum single to date.
It features heavy multi-band compression in the high-frequency range, and as such, it screams out of the speakers like a possessed banshee.
Everything is so technically perfect that it sounds clean on any sound system and it will tear a rave to shreds in seconds.
The male vocal is quality too – perfectly in tune with the track and it really adds to the adhesive vibe on offer – it will stick in your head all week.
Watch out for the nasty Dillinja Remix on this release too.
