Technicolour [Technique]
27 May, 2008 | 11.38PMNo one is more deserving of a drum & bass release on a big independent label than Technicolour
.
Having plied away religiously for God-knows-how-many years, working for Knowledge Magazine and getting a few pieces written about him here and there, his time is now with this first Technique![[a]](http://www.beatportal.com/images/site/misc/wiki_box_a.gif)
release.
So, what’s the oddly-titled ‘Good News Green’ like then?
It’s a breezy, uplifting runner of a composition, boasting a strong lead melody comprised of a stretched, filtered, reverb-laden synth.
The drums are snappy and strong in the high-mid sections, replete with rolling congas creating sub rhythms in the background.
As things progress, additional elements drop into the MIDI melody mold, and do their job well.
Watch out for the warm piano and jazzy saxophone on the breakdown, as cresting them is a powerful male speech sample saying things like, “I wanna stay with this music thing - it’s the only thing for me, I think. It’s just something I love, something that’s a part of me every day, each and every hour… one of the few things that give you peace of mind in this industry”.
Truer words never said, nice one, Technicolour.
Moving on to ‘Empty’, Technicolour blows the previous track out of the water, with a filtered, musical masterpiece only missing out on “classic” status because the drums are so overdriven in the high mids.
It could easily be mistaken for a Calibre track, such is its quality.
