‘Godfather’ celebrates its 10 years of partying, Tokyo
16 May, 2008 | 7.44PM- Section: Music News Topics: Beatport Blog
“Godfather” is a club night that started off as a super underground deep house party in 1998 at Club Milk (now gone) in Ebisu, Tokyo.
It was initiated by Ukawa Naohiro, a visual artist/ VJ/ writer/ professor/ ex-Mixrooffice owner, and he teamed up with two local DJs who seemed to have the deepest understanding of the deepest house music: Tohru Takahashi and Moodman (all are pictured, from left to right).
The intention was to explore into the dark and dangerous side of house music.
After having a bit of a hiatus and going through some ups and downs, “Godfather” still remains to be one of the most experimental and underground dance parties in Tokyo.
In 2008 it celebrates its 10th anniversary, and the trio is ready to share this excitement on and off the dance floor.
The first news is the release of its first official mix CD mixed by Tohru Takahashi - called ‘Deathcovery Mix’ (available in Japan from Lastrum Music Entertainment.)
Check out the tracklisting to see how deadly it is…
1. Verladcre (Original Mix) / Nojem Sworb
2. The Rain And The Train (Original) / Oblivion
3. Revolver / Djinxx
4. Utica (Yorkers Remix) /Alex Santer
5. We Need a Fix (Original) / Piatto
6. Ultimate (Original) / Pressiaboys
7. Anthemo (Original Miix ) / Alex Under

Now, Tohru Takahashi is not just a random DJ.
Born in 1957, he has been DJing and dvoting his life to dance music for 33 years.
He is literally one of the first in a handful of people who introduced house music to Japan.
He was a regular at Paradise Garage in its final years in late 80s, where he got not only exposed to house music, but experienced the ‘madness’ of the music played by Larry Levan.
He treasures this memory deep in his heart, and tries to share his experience through DJing. This makes him the most experienced yet most adventurous and experimental DJ in the country.
A special release party will take place this Friday 16th at Club Unit in Tokyo, and “Godfather” will tour around the nation throughout the summer.
Another mix CD is planned to be released later in the year, mixed by Moodman.
