GMJ ‘Torgant EP’ out now on Open Records Digital
5 September, 2008 | 11.52PMDeep from the sounds of the Melbourne underground comes the next release on Open Records of renowned DJ Gavin Martin under his alias GMJ.
After the success of his first 2 releases on Bus and Open Records, Gavin has been busy in the studio signing tracks to labels like Vapour, Segment, System and Resurgent Records.
The Torgant EP represents a diverse range of electronic music styles and will again show why GMJ is becoming a name to watch in progressive and techno music.
Kicking the EP off is the massive grooves of the title track Torgant - an epic tribal monster suited to festival
dancefloors in classic Open style. The grinding techno of the vector remix under Gavin’s other moniker Fulcrum
provides an alternative, favoring a driving, percussive approach with mechanical rhythms and a slamming bottomend.
Following on is the B-side, the hypnotic progressive techno of Curious Calm. Combining layering rhythms, washed
out pads and deep pulsing basslines, the track has already seen strong reviews and support from DJs across the
globe.
Rounding the EP off is the deep tech-house edit of Curious Calm by France’s D-Sens. Glitchy sounds, lazy
atmospherics and sub-bass frequencies make this perfect for the twilight hours and a fitting end to a diverse
release from Open Records and one of Australia’s best new producers.
Gavin has plenty more up his sleeve, so make sure you keep your eyes and ears peeled for more sounds from the
GMJ studios in the not-too-distant future.
We hope you enjoy!
