Ghettoblaster Remixes
Armand Van Helden [Ultra]
19 March, 2008 | 7.11AM- Section: Music Reviews
You’re treated to a set of four tracks on this remix EP, including two electro house bangers.
Admittedly, the latter are mixes of the same track – one instrumental and one vocal – but both are worthy your attention.
They’re both built around this buzzing, monotone bassline that sort of doubles as a drop and a build up at the same time.
These progress into waves of slippy, portamento bleeps and tasty bassline melodies.
Roxy Cottontail provides the lyrics, which are pretty constructive to the vibe of the overall tune, but damned annoying too.
The fact that she can’t sing might have something to do with this, which begs the question as to why Armand Van Helden didn’t just use his sister to do them instead.
However, some people will undoubtedly love the skanky, amateurish vibe on offer here, so please give it a listen and make up your own minds.
The dub features a few vocal stabs, but a lot less vocals in general – a great alternative for DJs who aren’t feeling the lyrics.
