Get Physical crew gate crash Washington, D.C.

Get Physical crew gate crash Washington, D.C.

“I want to see the White House,” shouted Heidi [a], during lunch in Washington, D.C. yesterday.

So after lunch, we all piled into a cab to go and see the place where the president lives.

“You know, I saw the White House before, and I took my trousers down in front of it,” explained Patrick from M.A.N.D.Y. [a] about a particular time when he was close to being arrested.

Heidi, Philipp and Anthony from Audiofly [a] posed for photos in front of the famous white building.

It was a bit like tourist sightseeing, but with a hilarious Get Physical twist.

Philipp wanted us to snap him jumping in mid air, so after a few tries we nailed this photo in front of a war memorial.

After dinner, we all headed to the venue Five which for a Monday night turned out to be a kicking fun party.

Industry Boy, being the tour manager ‘n all, was put in charge of setting up the DJ equipment.

Patrick from M.A.N.D.Y. plays off Serato, his partner Philipp plays normal CDs, and Heidi plays good old fashioned vinyl so the set up was a little complicated, but thankfully I didn’t balls it up.

Five was a plush bar on three floors, and it felt underground and just right for the Get Physical sound.

Heidi played a warm up set of funky house grooves, before the Audiofly boys took over with a chunky bleepy tech house set.

It started serious and heads down, but ended up driving and fun, which was the perfect set up for M.A.N.D.Y..

For two hours Patrick and Philipp played warm bubbly minimal and funky groovy techno and the crowd for a Monday night had it really good.

Ali Dubfire from Deep Dish - he lives in D.C. - then turned up, a sign that the former progressive house superstar turned techno champion is a big fan of the Get Physical sound.

“It’s a really great turnout for a Monday night in D.C.,” Dubfire told me. “I used to play in this club all the time, so I know it well.”

When the club closed at 2am, somebody shouted something about an afterparty, and in true Get Physical style it took exactly three seconds for everyone to agree to carry on.

So we hop skipped it to a local’s house in packed cars, the record bags barely squeezed into the trunks.

“Hey look a James Bond gambling table,” said Patrick pointing to the full size poker table at the local’s house.

Somebody fired up a mini radio-controlled helicopter and started flying it around the room, freaking Philipp out a little bit.

The vodka flowed into the early hours, but then somebody pointed out that we should probably leave as we had to get to D.C., so eventually we headed back to the bus with the sun fully up.

Before getting on the bus, we collected our things from the hotel room and had “one more little drink.”

There’s always seems to be “one little drink” when it comes to the Get Physical crew, and Patrick miraculously pulled out a glass of vodka from behind the TV in the hotel room, which he had hidden away previously, like a squirrel might hide his nuts for the winter.

A girl we were hanging with then gave Philipp a Roman soldier’s costume which he tried on with pride.

He balanced the agressive, violent nature of the costume with a white teddy bear.

We then legged it from the hotel room wearing sunglasses without saying goodbye, and with us all fully snoring in our black hole bunks, the bus made its way slowly but surely to Philadelphia.

When we awoke, we were parked up in Philly, and the sun outside was strong, cutting through our heads like a sharp knife.

For a while nobody said anything as the disorientation of the journey, the overwhelming heat and the booze-laced sweat was difficult to take in.

But then Luca from Audiofly shouted “Ready for round two?” and we all laughed (except Patrick, who was asleep on the pavement again).
