Germans do the samba on carnival compilation

Apparently even Germans can do the samba, as Great Stuff prove on their new compilation ‘Great Carnival Stuff’.

Featuring 11 tracks of carnival inspired techno, tech house and house, the selection sees traditional South American rhythms and beats merged with modern techno synths and FX.

The result is a clash of musical worlds - something that always works a treat on the dancefloor.

The compilation on the imprint from Munich couldn’t have been released at a better time.

With Rio de Janeiro’s famous carnival just a few weeks away, and January being somewhat of a depressing month, dancefloors everywhere are looking for a bit of colour and energy.

Namito’s ‘City of Gods’ is already riding high in Beatport’s Top 100 with its South American drum hits, whilst Sven Weber’s ‘Samba de Bochum’ does a good job with its obvious samba riff and jiggly beats.

Oliver Koltezki does a booty shake with his ‘Technica Salsa’, that moves from darkness to party hysterics effortlessly.

Whilst Whebba’s evil electro tech workout includes South American drum rolls and chants before dropping into a driving electric bassline.

Last year, Samim’s ‘Heater’ showed how merging techno with tradtional musical elements from other cultures could ignite dancefloors, and Great Stuff have taken that model and run with it in a way that is bound to be repeated again and again in 2008.

In the age of simple samplers and spot on time stretching, it is compilations such as ‘Great Carnival Stuff’ which will help bridge the gap between different countries and cultures.

Let’s just hope the format doesn’t get overcooked.

After all, South America isn’t the only place with an exciting musical history.
