Gat Decor ‘Passion’: Dance Anthem

Gat Decor ‘Passion’ was one of the first progressive house records ever to be released and in my opinion it is one of the best dance tracks of all time.
Unbelievably the track came out in 1992, the same year that Wayne’s World hit the cinemas, but listening to the original mix today you’d never have guessed.
‘Passion’ was written and produced by Simon Slater.
Interestingly, the name Gat Decor is an anagram of Tag Records, a record store then based in London.
‘Passion’ was a massive hit in the underground dance clubs when it was released on Effective Records, before eventually making it into the UK charts peaking at No.29.
The 12” single contained the original mix as well as a remix by British DJ Darren Emerson (of Underworld fame), which was his first ever remix.
The track has finally been made available digitally, which is great news for me because my old vinyl copy is scratched to hell!
More info
Simon Slater, the original producer behind ‘Passion’ got in touch with us after my blog post was published to reveal more interesting stats about the anthem he created.
‘Passion’ was listed by British dance mag Mixmag as one of the 50 Most Influential UK tracks of all time alongside legends such as The Beatles, James Brown and Marvin Gaye.
‘Passion’ was voted No.2 by BBC Radio 1 listeners in the greatest dance anthems of all time on the millennium 2000.
In 1996, when ‘Passion’ was re released with the ‘Do you want it right now’ vocal, it sold over 250,000 copies.
And ‘Passion’ still to this day is one of the most bootlegged records of all time.
Thanks Simon!
