JPLS [Minus]
19 February, 2008 | 9.04PMJeremy Jacobs is another of Richie Hawtin’s new minimalist recruits to the ever-growing ranks of the Minus![[a]](http://www.beatportal.com/images/site/misc/wiki_box_a.gif)
gang.
Joining the ranks of fellow newbies like Gaiser, Ambivalent and Tractile, the JPLS
tracks are all about solid, tripped out dancefloor minimalism.
‘Fuckshuffle’ is an EP for the digital age, comprising in total nine tracks of downloadable dancefloor deviousness that’ll be eagerly lapped up by the hordes of pan Atlantic Minus fans that are accruing with every Minus release.
Typically Minus, all tracks are the kind of staple techno wig outs that have filled Hawtin’s more stripped down sets over the year, no doubt carrying on from the blueprint laid down by Hawtin’s own minimalist classics like ‘Panic Attack’, ‘Spastik’ or ‘Helikopter’.
‘Fuckshuffle’ takes the baton and runs it to great effect with tracks like ‘Synthesis’, ‘Activatroy’ (no doubt inspired by the classic 1993 techno cut ‘Activator’), all of which carry that hallmark, tense Plastikman style urgency.
‘Quasarlude’ is probably the most individual of the lot, taking the vibe in a more Shinedoe style direction but for fans of proper dancefloor minimalism (a rare commodity in the stretched terminology that the word minimal techno now spans).
It’s a killer release.
