Freerange celebrates No.100

Congratulations to Freerange Records [l] for notching up 100 releases with the aptly named ‘Freerange 100 Part 1’ EP.

The release is another great example of how the label was able to reach that benchmark while many have failed to even reach double figures.

By not sticking to one script Jamie Odell’s (aka Jimpster and Audiomontage) label has reaped the rewards releasing material by an assortment of stars on the way up, including Switch, Trevor Loveys, Shur-i-kan and Robert Strauss.

Three of the label’s newest signings, Milton Jackson [a], Square One [a] and Manuel Tur (although seasoned pros in their own right), are on hand to offer their skills to this landmark release.

And what a corker it is too with Jackson’s devastatingly simple ‘Ghosts In My Machines’ — his strongest to date.

It’s clear to hear why on this highly effective instrumental is made with a maturity that reassures the next generation of producers is man enough for the challenge.

It goes deep whilst retaining a tech-edge, unlike Square One’s ‘Twilight’ which is a broader sonic milieu of electronica – atmospheric, melodic and made with funk running through its veins.

The ubiquitous Manuel Tur [a] delivers another epic downbeat amalgamation of strings, arpeggiations and enveloping sub-bass on ‘Boxed Rivers’.

Can’t wait for part 2 featuring new tracks from Jimpster [a], Palm Skin Productions [a] and Only Freak [a].
