Free Moog patches from Propellerhead

Last week, Propellerhead Software – makers of the ever-ubiquitous Reason – quietly released a free Moog-inspired ReFill for registered users of Reason.
The Moog Foundation ReFill is a collection of Thor patches designed by synth gurus Mark Vail, Craig Anderton and Gordon Reid.
The idea behind releasing the Moog-flavored ReFill is to generate awareness for the Moog Foundation, whose stated purpose is, in their own words:
“The mission of The Bob Moog Foundation is to document, celebrate and teach innovative thinking and to support and honor the legacy of synthesizer pioneer Bob Moog. Our four long range goals are: scholarship, outreach programs, unique community events and a Bob Moog Museum.”
To some, these goals may seem lofty, but we have to wonder if club music would even exist without Bob Moog’s invention of the synthesizer back in 1964.
We took the time to check out some of the patches in this collection and were pleasantly surprised at how many great sounds were included.
While no current softsynth truly captures the warmth and aggression of a real Moog, Reason’s Thor is capable of some truly evocative sounds.
So if you’re a registered Reason user, pop on over to this Propellerhead page and download the ReFill.
It’s good stuff.
And if you’re feeling especially philanthropic, swing by the Moog Foundation’s website and make a donation.
