Free Fall

Microstar [Playloop]

Genre-busting Philadelphia label Playloop reacquaint themselves with their old pal Microstar [a] here, for the single-tracked ‘Free Fall’ release.

It’s fair to say that the Hamburg producer has been carving out a nice little niche for himself over the last year or so with a tidy set of tech/deep house cuts released through the aforementioned label.

‘Free Fall’ hyperactively jerks into action with an energetic range of percussion hits and crisp, purposeful beats.

The mood reached at the tracks climax, is hinted at by some dramatic pad swells that waft gently in during the early stages of the proceedings.

It’s not really about peaks and troughs, more the miniature ripples in the groove that keep the track’s flow pushing onwards.

As such it would be difficult to raise this track above the level of mid-set filler, coming across as useful rather than being the dance floor bomb that DJs crave.

Playloop are set to put out a quartet of Microstar EPs in consecutive weeks, all produced during a recent tour of the east coast of the US.

There is enough meat in this track to suggest there is more to come from Microstar, so giving the new releases some attention would certainly be advised.
