The ninth single in Fort Knox Five’s RADIO FREE DC Remixed series features remixes from Rodney Hunter
of G-Stone in Austria & our man Shimon
from Ram Records in the UK.
Back in 2003, we completed our first official Fort Knox Five remix for a man named Rodney Hunter. He is one of our brethren from our favorite city of Wien in Austria. Rodney is no stranger to all styles of music. He was an integral part of the seminal Space Age Hip Hop group the Aphrodelics, and has been releasing music on Kruder & Dorfmeister’s G-Stoned label since it’s inception. On Uptown Tricks featuring Mustafa Akbar, Rodney’s Remake takes you on the smoothest disco journey. Adding synth lines, and upping the tempo of the vocal, shed a whole new light on Tricks. Sure to be a hit with all djs who are not scared to dabble in multi-genres or cross tempos.
On the flipside, we went a slightly different route. While discussing the state of music in a little trailer on the beach in Ucluelet, BC at the amazing Soundwave Festival last year, Shimon decided he wanted to take a stab at flipping Uptown Tricks into a drum & bass rinser. Could it be done?!?!?! There was no better person to take a stab at it than Shim!! In our opinion Shimon, and his label Ram Records have released some of the most forward thinking D&B cuts to date. He took that slow mellow funk burner, and turned Trix into a monster of basslines, and dirtiness. All the while keeping the smoothness of the original. Another cut, that will find it’s way into the set of many djs, drum and bass, or not!!
FUNK 4 PEACE!
