For The Lost

For The Lost

The Mole [Internasjonal]

Who exactly does The Mole [a] belong to? Disparate imprints have housed his ever-green grooves across the course of his fruitful journey; Philpot [l], Kompakt [l], Spectral Sound [l] and of course Wagon Repair [l] have all offered him a room at the inn at one point or another.

The fact is, the The Mole’s output seems to fit glove-like wherever it resides; none more so perhaps than Internasjonal [l], the sparkling release arm of Mr. Prins Thomas [a].

Out on his first proper excursion since last year’s quite brilliant ‘As High As The Sky’ LP, ‘For The Lost’ is more of a case of ‘as you were’ than any bold departures from his modus operandi.

The title track is an incessant little number, built around a gently unraveling ear-worm that delicately wriggles over the cuts near-12 minute duration. Think a wistful Luciano [a] does disco and you’re almost there.

‘There’s Hope’ meanwhile is almost as lengthy, but there the similarities end. What sounds like a synthesizer running on empty coats the early stages of the track and, as the drums gradually begin to gather pace, a Mole specialty - the snipped vocal loop - is thrust forth. A late in the day introduction of a wah-wah funk guitar only serves to intensify the overall feeling of restlessness that adorned everything preceding it.

May The Mole roam free forever more.
