Fingerlickin, Sex, Drugs, and Rock n’ Roll
21 September, 2007 | 9.54AM- Section: Music News Topics: Beatport Blog
Soul of Man, head honcho’s of Fingerlickin’ have been in the game long enough to know when a tune’s a tune – and when a hit’s a hit. So when Slyde delivered them this tasty, breaks rock version of ‘Sex, Drugs & Rock n’ Roll’ a whole cast of puppets, dolls and stuffed animals were assembled to make a video-extraordinaire. As you can see the video is stuffed with debauchery, fur and well….see for yourself.
Slyde on the other hand have been going from strength to strength with their releases
From their Fingerlickin’ classic standard of ‘We Love it’ to the Lady Posh tinted ‘Vibrate To This’. Slyde then came into a league of their own with ‘The Click’, a track that really began to not only define their sound but highlight their amazing production. A low-fi, breaks track with cuts in and out with the brilliant ‘you gotta kick it’ sample.
This summer Slyde dropped ‘Get This Good’, which was rinsed around festivals and caned by Radio 1’s favourite breaks DJ, Annie Nightingale.
In a similar style to ‘The Click’, ‘Get This Good’ is a phat, progressive stormer of a tune with amazing production and brilliant sample use.
Slyde’s album is due out later this year and from early listens it’s going to be a sure fire hit. A cross combo and breaks and rock that will appeal to a far larger fan base.
Tip of the week in the breaks releases would have to be ‘Silverlake Pills’ by Adam Freeland.
His first release in over a year is a not one for the classic breaks fan. It’s stabbing drum lines, guitar like synths and electro style formula make this a tune of epic proportions. Remixes by Smash TV and Gui Borrato will appeal to the techno fans.
