Festival Tips: Phil Kieran, Lindstrom, Motor
Festival Tips: Phil Kieran, Lindstrom, Motor
15 July, 2010 | 7.13AMOfficially called the FIB Heineken, but popularly referred to by the name of the town where it takes place, Benicàssim is an annual four-day event held on the coast just north of Valencia, Spain. A magnet for British revelers, the festival strikes a balance between pop, indie rock, and underground electronic music, much like many British festivals — but with a lot less mud.
We asked Phil Kieran
, Lindstrom
, and Motor
how they’re planning to get their FIB on.
Phil Kieran

Have you played Benicassim Festival before?
No this is my first time, heard loads of great things and I’m very excited about going!
How long do you plan to spend there, and which other artists are you excited to see?
Unfortunately I have to leave early the next day to go another gig, I’m playing at Berghain in Berlin. I’m just going to take a walk about and see if something takes me by surprise. I love doing that at festivals, I try not to make plans and take it as I find it.
What have you planned for your set?
I have got lots of new music made and remixes of mine to play, so I have lots exclusive new material, some I have not even played myself yet! I’ll be playing unreleased tracks that are scheduled on Snork, Gigolo, Electric Deluxe, and my new label, Phil Kieran Recordings, will be dropping the ‘Skyhook’ remix package exclusively on Beatport soon. So expect to hear some of those and of course my recent remixes of the SHH album we released on Cocoon recently.
What festival survival tips do you have?
Try not to get too hammered too quick, pace yourself and enjoy the music, that way you will get to enjoy the whole weekend and not just the first night .
Lindstrom

Have you played Benicassim Festival before?
No, I’ve never been there before. Looking much forward to it though!
How long do you plan to spend there, and which other artists are you excited to see?
I’m gonna spend a couple of days in Spain as far as I know, don’t really know who’s playing there yet… Wait, lemme check… Right, maybe Four Tet… or Echo & The Bunnymen!
What have you planned for your set?
We’re gonna play most of the songs from our recent album. Christabelle is taking care of all the vocals, while I’m in charge of the rest.
What festival survival tips do you have?
Hehe, I’m not the one to ask. Only been at Roskilde festival in 1995. I was very young. I’d suggest bringing a warm wool sweater. It’s useful when it gets chilly at night.
Motor

Have you played Benicassim before?
Nope.
How long do you plan to spend there, and which other artists are you excited to see?
I’m arriving one day early so I can hang out and drink free beer and work on my tan. I’m gonna check out Peter Hook perform ‘Unknown Pleasures’, and PIL.
What have you planned for your set or performance?
Motor will be performing the longest set in Benicassim’s history: 150 minutes. We have planned a special 60-minute live performance followed by a 90-minute decks-and-FX DJ set.
What festival survival tips do you have?
Wear clean underwear.
