Festival Tips: Brodinski, Black Rose, Ost & Kjex

Serbia’s EXIT festival has its origins in the country’s student resistance movement of the ‘90s, which expressed a widespread desire for a more open culture. The very first festival, in 2000, attracted a crowd of 200,000 people for nine days of concerts.

The festival has kept growing ever since. This year, the eleventh edition will feature more than 500 artists across 20 stages, once again held at the historic Petrovaradin Fortress in Novi Sad. We asked Brodinski, Black Rose (aka Jesse Rose and Henrik Schwarz) and Ost & Kjex, three of this year’s acts, what they were looking forward to upon entering Exit.

Have you played Exit Festival before?

No, it’s gonna be my first time and I’m really excited! Big lineup, and I’ve never been to Serbia.


How long do you plan to spend there, and which other artists are you excited to see?

Unfortunately I will stay for one day, Saturday. Some friends of mine are playing the other days, like DJ Mehdi or Erol Alkan. But i’m really excited to see the performances of Missy Elliott, Ost & Kjex, and L-Vis 1990!

What have you planned for your set?

I never plan something because I never know what people expect. I’m sure it’s gonna be an awesome gig.


What festival survival tips do you have?

Never wear some fancy shoes, have a good rain suit, and take your own food (especially in England).

Have you played Exit Festival before?

Nope but I heard it’s one of the best… we’re very much looking forward to it


How long do you plan to spend there, and which other artists are you excited to see?

It’s a busy weekend with Ibiza and Oxygen festival in Dublin also, so we arrive quite late and leave to the airport straight after. But I hope to catch Zombie Disco Squad (of course) and another good chance to see LCD again…

What have you planned for your set?

We’ll as it’s ‘Black Rose’ (Henrik Schwarz & myself), we do a semi-live tag team set, with keyboards, percussions, lots of fresh material and a techno kinda vibe.


What festival survival tips do you have?

Wellies and waterproofs for the UK and sunblock in Europe!

Have you played Exit Festival before?

No, never, can’t wait though. Looks like something truly special!


How long do you plan to spend there, and which other artists are you excited to see?

We arrive Saturday and will stay until Sunday afternoon—would love to stay longer but we will try and see as much as we can and go with the flow ...and of course our mate Solomun‘s morning set will be amazing!

What have you planned for your set?

We are bringing five lovely choir ladies and one hell of a sexy percusionist to back me and Mr.Ost up on stage. Together we will make Serbia sweaty, dirty, and ready for love! Apart from that, playing tracks from our brand new album, ‘Cajun Lunch’!
