Festival Tips: 2000 And One, John Digweed, Tiefschwarz, Jahcoozi
8 July, 2010 | 2.50AMSince its first edition in 1995, Ghent, Belgium’s 10 Days Off festival—held at the same time as Ghent’s City Festival—has established a reputation for spot-on programming and up-for-it crowds. This year’s fest is no difference, with a lineup running from warehouse techno to dubstep to deep house.
We asked featured performers 2000 And One
, John Digweed
, Tiefschwarz
, and Jahcoozi
what we should expect from this year’s edition; read on after the jump for their responses and top 10s charts.
2000 And One

Have you played 10 Days Off before?
No, but I have played at 5 Days Off, which is the little sister festival in Amsterdam!
How long do you plan to spend there, and which other artists are you excited to see?
I will not spend a lot of time there because my summer gigging schedule is insane, fully booked. If I did I really would like to the see Benga and Kerri Chandler.
What have you planned for your set?
Planning to rock the crowd!
What festival survival tips do you have?
Lots of water and healthy food, hahaha.

Have you played 10 Days Off before?
I think it is my third or fourth time. I really enjoy it.
How long do you plan to spend there, and which other artists are you excited to see?
I don’t get too much time to spend there as I arrive late and have an early train the next day.
What have you planned for your set?
I never really plan anything as I prefer to see how the crowd is reacting and feed off them.
What festival survival tips do you have?
Well this 10 Days Off festival is not in a field so you don’t have to worry about getting stuck in any mud or downpours. The complex that it is in is great and the main room rocks. For other festivals you need to go with the flow and take your own loo roll…
Tiefschwarz

Have you played 10 Days Off before?
We’re playing 10 Days Off since many many years—you could call us residents, I guess!
How long do you plan to spend there, and which other artists are you excited to see?
Unfortunatly it will be kind of in-and-out as we’re playing another gig the next day, so we won t have much time to see a lot of other artists besides our friend Guy Gerber.
What have you planned for your set?
Well, to take the crowd on a Tiefschwarz journey into sound…
What festival survival tips do you have?
Don’t drink too much too fast—save your energy and don’t forget your Wellingtons if it’s outside!
Jahcoozi

Have you played 10 Days Off before?
No, but we have had some wicked gigs in Belgium e.g. at Recyclart in Brussels and AB Belgique. But I’ve never been to Ghent so I’m looking forward to it.
How long do you plan to spend there, and which other artists are you excited to see?
Unfortunately I think we are only staying for one night, we are in the middle of touring and promoting our new album, but if I could stay I would love to get to see Mount Kimbie again. I saw them a while back playing in Berlin, they managed to create an amazing atmosphere during their set. I really dig the EPs they have released. Haven’t had a chance to listen to their new album yet. I’d like to see Joy Orbison too.
What have you planned for your set?
Just been putting together a new tune called ‘Primeval Creature’, should have that on the stage by then. Other than that we would like to keep y’all guessing!
What festival survival tips do you have?
Earplugs! I love the personalised earplugs which are fitted to the form of your ear. I have 15 dB and 25 dB earplugs, and they are so addictive. I feel like I am in a warm cocoon even when I’m standing right in front of the soundsystem. It’s like a big female condom which protects my ears from promiscuous lorry drivers! I’m joking… just looking for the right analogy! But earplugs also protect you from your best friends who get drunk and shout really loud in your ear about what a great time they are having—that’s in fact where most musicians damage their hearing!
