Feindrehstar get vulgar
5 August, 2010 | 7.15AMHere’s a short but sweet promo video for the debut album from Germany’s Feindrehstar, ‘Vulgarian Knights’, released on Musik Krause
.
The seven-piece band has been honing its live act for a decade, mixing up elements of jazz, funk, Balkan horns, and broken beat; in 2006 they released the ‘Dancetrack’ single on Sonar Kollektiv
, and last year they won the Creole World Music Prize Germany. Now, working in Jazzanova’s Berlin studio, and with Michel Baumann (aka Soulphiction
and Jackmate
) in the producer’s chair, they’ve come up with a dynamic, playful album that sounds like nothing else out there.
Shot in their home town of Jena, the video features cameos from many of the Musik Krause/Freude Am Tanzen crew, including the Wighnomy Brothers‘ Monkey Maffia, as well as footage of local landmarks like the Fatplastics record store and the Kassablanca club. (If you haven’t been to Jena yet, go! There’s a reason its train station is called Jena Paradies: the place really is a paradise...)
