Feel the Music (Re-Rub)
Ed Solo and Skool Of Thought [Again...
8 November, 2007 | 3.54PM‘Feel the Music (Re-Rub)’ is the only drum & bass track on the ‘Random Acts Of Kindness’ LP by Ed Solo
and Skool Of Thought
.
The dynamic duo’s breakbeat excursions really have put them in good stead to make roots drum & bass tracks, like this.
Moving away from the mad face-clobbering rave-type material that currently dominates the scene, this is a straight-up, no-nonsense, fun D&B number, choc-full of synthy melodies and burbling basslines.
Its beats don’t punch at 200Hz, no – Ed Solo doesn’t need to follow that current trend – instead they bash hard in the mids and are spliced with only subtle hi-hats and background breaks to add that vital shuffle.
Underneath these you’ve got a rusty, bubbling bassline moving forward and cheeky, processed staccato synths poking through every now and again.
Before you know it, the Re-Rub morphs into a wah-wah synth and goes edit crazy, with all sorts of drum, synth and audio snipping going on.
And then another change!
Everything gets filtered down and the soundscape becomes saturated – expect disco LFO stabs and a really decent-sounding HPF pad that takes you right back to the oldskool – taking you to the bridge!
