Feel the Dream promotes freedom
26 August, 2008 | 11.14AMFeel the Dream, a Brighton-based creative collective and non-profit organization, is celebrating the 45th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.’s ‘I Have a Dream’ speech this Wednesday, August 28th in what will be a collaborative and coordinated global event.
On August 28th and throughout the following weekend, a global network of at least 250 DJs worldwide have united and agreed to work into their DJ sets the house music classic from 1987, Mr Fingers’ (aka Larry Heard) ‘Can You Feel It’ which samples Dr. King’s speech, in a pledge to proactively celebrate freedom.
Founded by club culture maven Righteous Knockside aka Patrick Treloar, this non-profit organization supports the work of Amnesty International and sees this collaboration as a way of promoting freedom while also taking responsibility for and acknowledging that human right.
In a recent press release, Treloar said, “In a nutshell, we are aiming to use dance music as a way of bringing people together throughout the world. It’s essentially a very simple idea, we’re not asking for special nights or promotion. DJs are masters of their craft - we are asking them to do something that comes naturally by building this classic song into a climactic part of their set – all in the name of freedom. We’ll do the rest.
“We are encouraging people to join together and celebrate human rights worldwide.”
Cheers to Feel the Dream for using music as a vehicle to promote social change and a force for good!
