Saints & Sinners’ ‘Pushin’ Too Hard’ is rightly legendary. A massive Twilo anthem during the years of Sasha and Digweed’s residency there, it’s been updated many times since its original 1999 release—bootlegged, reworked by Saints & Sinners themselves, and remixed by the likes of Guy J and Futureshock.

Now Nic Fanciulli [a] gives it a new lease on life with a remix that’s truly something special. This isn’t the same old story of a label trying to wring a few more years out of an old track with a new round of remixes—this was Fanciulli’s idea. Judging from the results, he knew exactly what he wanted to do with it: play up the Giorgio Moroder-inspired robo-disco vibe of the original, slow it down and give it a tough, tech-house going-over.

Just out this week, the remix naturally occupies a high-ranking slot in Fanciulli’s new Beatport Top 10.

He also taps a number of new and recent tunes that you can catch in his recent podcasts for Don’t Stay In’s Mix of the Week and Nic Fanciulli Presents Worldwide Sounds, including Mark Broom’s rousing ‘Supersnout’ and Davide Squillace’s ‘Crocodile Tears’.

You may have missed Deadboy’s ‘U Cheated’, back in December, given the way that it sits between genres, which makes this a great chance to catch up with its disorienting mixture of broken beats, backwards vox and futuristic tango accents. Santos’ ‘Bastard Jack Remix’ of Steve Mac’s ‘The Noise Bastard’ looks set to be one of spring’s most insistent tracks. And on the techno front, Rio Padice delivers classic, pumping vibes with ‘RM01.3’, while Robert Hood turns Aufgang’s ‘Barock’ into a minimal techno mood piece led by jittery piano.

Along the way, Fanciulli unearths a couple of classics: Rocket’s breakbeat-driven, Kraftwerk-influenced house jam ‘People’, from 2002, and LoSoul’s hypnotic ‘Open Door’, from all the way back in ‘96. And just in case you’re worn out from pushing too hard, there’s DJ Koze’s lovely, ambient ‘Bodenweich’ to cool you down.
