Featured Chart: Jesse Rose
14 September, 2010 | 3.56AMJesse “Sleep Less” Rose may not catch much shuteye, but his loss is our gain: his new Beatport Top 10 showcases an array of recent output from his prolific labels Made To Play and Play It Down, alongside likeminded fare from dirtybird, Be As One, and more, and one overlooked 1990 gem that every self-respecting house head should own…
Check out the full chart and audio after the jump.
Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, ‘Garden (Jesse Rose Play It Down Dub)’ [Play It Down]
The crown jewel here is undoubtedly Rose’s own remix of Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs’ ‘Garden’, released yesterday on Play It Down—a dusky, chord-heavy house gem whose acoustic bass foundations faintly recall Cadenza or Souvenir.
Cajmere, ‘Percolator (Claude VonStroke Remix)’ [Cajual Records]
Another gem is Claude VonStroke’s brand new remix of the Cajmere classic ‘Percolator’, a pairing as inspired as it might be obvious.
Ardalan & Justin Martin, ‘Mr. Spock’ [dirtybird]
There’s more from the dirtybird camp in the form of ‘Mr. Spock’, a huge, huge, huge (did we mention “huge”?) booty-moving jam from San Jose, California’s 20-year-old Ardalan, with additional edits and finessing from Justin Martin. Booming toms, mouth pops, operatic vox… this anthem’s got it all, for all kinds of DJs.
Zombie Disco Squad, ‘Spooks’ [Play It Down]
Oliver $, ‘Shaka-Lao’ [Play It Down]
Renaissance Man, ‘Brainstorm’ [Made To Play]
Back at Made To Play/Play It Down HQ, Zombie Disco Squad deliver an eerie slice of tribal bounce complete with echoing cries and a blanket of crickets, and Oliver $ busts out with a good-natured vintage-vinyl-sampling Latin ho-down that’ll go down gangbusters with the Cadenza/Snatch! Crowd. Renaissance Man, meanwhile, harnesses a swarm of mosquitoes and somehow coaxes them into a horn section formation; just be careful not to slap your neck involuntarily during the breakdown.
Rainer Weichhold, ‘I Want You (M.in & Patrick Lindsey Remix)’ [Kling Klong]
M.in and Patrick Lindsey come up with infectious and slightly off-kilter vocal house on their remix of Rainer Weichhold’s ‘I Want You’—nothing groundbreaking, just catchy as all hell.
Earth People, ‘Dance (Beats Mix)’ [Cabaret]
Rounding out the list are tight, groove-oriented filter house from Nyra on Be As One, a dirty-minded jack track from Olene Kadar on Clap Your Hands, and a classic jam from Earth People, aka the one and only Pal Joey![[a]](http://www.beatportal.com/images/site/misc/wiki_box_a.gif)
. The lesson is clear: sleep less, dig more!
