Fantastic Playroom
New Young Pony Club [Modular]
4 October, 2007 | 2.02PM- Section: Music Recommendations
The Ponies can’t seem to put a hoof wrong with their breed of irresistible disco punk anthems that have people dancing and prancing around many a genre perimeter.
With the public champing at the bit for their debut album they unleash a very sweet beast indeed.
Tracks that have already done the rounds and become indie dance anthems like ‘Ice Cream’ and ‘The Bomb’ sit next to hot new numbers like ‘F.A.N’, ‘Tight Fit’ ‘Talking Talking’ and ‘The Get Go’.
The new stuff is everything you would expect – all electronic pop hooks, provocative lyrics and sexy bass licks.
‘Grey’ is the least impressive song on the album, ringing more like a thought in someone’s head than something that should have been included on an album nominated for a Mercury Music Award.
Like Hot Chip, NYPC are a live band that apply liberal electronic varnish to their music before its released and thus “Fantastic Playroom” as an album is far more impressive than a live set.
For any indie dance fan this album is essential.
Beatport Exclusive album package includes 2 bonus remixes including the brilliantly chaotic Phones Collateral Damage Mix of ‘The Bomb’.
